Type category in DataMaster Details

Answered Victor Conesa 12 years ago

How you introduce in Data Master Details values with type Category? "Error:The introduced value must be of type Category".

To use data from a data master in a category (dropdown) follow these steps:

1. In the data master fields, change one field to a category. Then, click on the circle next to the field name, and then click the 'gear' icon.

2. In the dialog that opens, add some values.

3. Select the dropdown and edit its values. You'll now be able to select a data master field, rather than the entire data master.

That's because you have an attribute in the data master that has the type 'category'. That attributes restricts the values allowed to the ones defined in the category. To edit/view the values in a category type attribute select the attribute and press the 'pencil' button.

Hi @VictorConesa, I am trying to import csv file to populate a category column.

It has been really painful in exploring where the issues are in populating data in datamaster using csv files.

I tried all types of approaches since morning and have spent almost 2-3 hours in figuring out what's going wrong for such a simple activity of loading csv data ( comma or semicolon limited). No helpful errors are shown indicating why the data loading is failing as expected.

Can you please help me thru this?

Also, until yesterday loading the date type field was an issue until I found each character in mm/dd/ccyy must be present in the values. Can you please update documentation to reflect such needs?

Thanks,

np

Hi James,

We're going to let our team know that importing data into a category could be easier and that this feature is needed.

As a workaround for now, you could create a separate data master for the data you would like to fill in a dropdown. Then, when populating the dropdown, you can select the entire data master to use.
