Master/Detail Data Display

Answered Joe Bimmerle 7 years ago

Apologies in advance if this has already been asked but I'm looking for a way to display a series of master records (e.g., a list of customers) with each being expandable to show additional information (e..g, orders, customer service inquiries). Each customer record should have the ability to expand/collapse and show the relevant information for that customer. The data would likely be contained across a minimum of two data masters.

Thanks in advance.

It seems that one of the sample templates in the latest version has an example of this. It's on the Welcome Admin sheet of the Health Insurance example. I figured it would need to use dynamic panels and some resizing but this provides a good starting point to help visualize how it should be done. From there one can customize the panel with the detail information as needed

Hi Joe,

Glad to hear that you've found an example that fits your needs.

Actually - I'm unable to really replicate what was done in that example. How is it that you can customize the position of the fields in a data list? I'm unable to move them around or temporarily change the size of a row so that I can reposition the items as show.

I figured it out. After removing all of the data list elements with the exception of one - I was able to size the widget and move items around to the desired location. Once that was done the resize event was easy to introduce.

Thank you very much for you kind reply! The link you provide seems to be very userfull. Is that also the Welcome Admin sheet of the Health Insurance example they are talking about?

No - that is someone's own prototype, so we don't have that file to share. Was there anything in particular in the description of their prototype that you have questions about?

May be it was a true master/detail example, with two relationed data masters i.e. "Customers master data" and "Orders/Invoices detailed datas" but the it's ok, the tutorial you suggested is more than enough. I am not a professional, just and "old 70 y.o. boy, retired programmer", forced to stay home due to Covid19 safety procedures. :-)

Thank you again for your kind help.

Back to you for a general requirement: would be very useful to have a "Justinmind Logic Manual", explaining for example

° the event flow (the order the different events are processed, the data available during this process ecc.

° the relations between differen elements

° ....

This could save a lot of questions

Thank you in advance for you always kind reply

We have some documentation of those functions in this article.

I could not find anything related to the internal logic of your product in this article . To see what i mean, have a look to any of the "Program Logic" manuals listed on this page: http://ibm1130.org/lib/manuals/. Attached one of these

No, we don't have anything exactly like that. But we do show how the logic will work in some examples there.
