Out of curiosity, does the shadow *not appear* in the prototype window (workspace), or does it *not appear* when you simulate?
In my prototype window — the shadow effect does not appear. However, when I publish the prototype, or view the prototype in the simulate window (in either Chrome, or on my device) the drop shadows appear just fine.
While this is inconvenient, it is just that... inconvenient. However, I do suspect that your shadows do show up when you publish your work. If that is the case, you might want to consider keeping a device connected, and view your simulations often.
Hopefully, you're just experiencing an inconvenience...
