Display input field value in plain text - not on page load

I have a search field and want to display the dynamic value in plain text after hitting the search button. I don't want it to load on another page.

Hi there,

Create an "On Click" + "Set Value" event for the search button. For the value, click 'calculated'. In the Expression Builder, drag the input field into the open slot. Now, when you click on the button, the value entered in the input field will display in the plain text element above. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks. But doing that changes the button text to the value entered in the search field. Am I missing something?

You need to make the destination of the "Set Value" event the text element. Right now, it sounds like the button is the destination.
