Customize Word report?

Answered Victor Conesa 13 years ago

Where can I access the Word template that JIM uses to create my report so it has the same format every time?

Hello Amanda,

Unfortunately, the generated document cannot be customized with Justinmind Prototyper Professional. We may add this feature in a future update for this version. Sorry for the inconvenience.

What about versioning? When I produce the Word document, at the first page of the document it says "Version 1" in a table for other versioning numbers which implies that I can update certain pieces of the document without overriding any changes made to the Word document. Is that not true?

How soon would you anticipate giving the ability to customize the Word doc template?

It's plan for the next big release. We will probably launch it between January-March 2012

Great to hear Victor!! Will it include the ability to increase the size of the screen shots? Or to show/hide the User Widgets and Events sections? Or the ability to customize the cover sheet or footer so its the same every time?

I think user should be able to create different types of comments - e.g. named comment type + select (think difficulty: easy, medium, hard), named comment + free text etc. Just make it possible to create template with named fields. Then user could edit it in word, add company header and footer and save it. Then similar reports would be done according to this new template.

All of that and even more.

The customization is based in a tag system that comes with MS Word already. That way you can literally grab a document from yours and turn it into a template to generate documents within Prototyper.

Is there any way to set up the 'output to Word' so that it looks more like an actual wireframe? What I mean is that in my current product (Axure), the output has the image with number tags that match the numbers in the annotation (comments) so that the user can go from one to the next. Currently with Justinmind, it shows an image of a 'region' so the user has to look for that exact spot on the image to understand what the comment refers to.

Not now, sorry. We plan to change it in future versions and use numbers like you say.

Will this be included in the release early next year?

+1 for this. One simple use case: If I put in a large screenshot as a background on a screen, I probably want the whole image in the document, besides, I can pretty quickly resize or crop in Word if I need to, but I can't grow a cropped image without retrieving it again from my hard drive. I am thinking that a "Do Not Crop" setting, either global or screen specific would be good. OR, a feature to resize images larger than X pixels to Y size or pixels. Thanks!

Version 5.0 now includes an option to create your own document generators. Thanks for your suggestions!
