When do I use a data masters vs variables?

Answered Victor Conesa 8 years ago

Since variable last throughout a simulation session, I'm trying to wrap my head around when I would use data masters instead of just using variables. Could you give me some examples? Thanks.

Hi Brandan,

In general, data masters represent databases, with many records and instances.

Variables are just a position to store a certain temporary value.

For example, a data master will store the name, picture, price and description of all of the items of a shop.

Then, when interacting with the data mster and selecting 1 item, this item (which in this case will be a data master instance) will be stored in the variable if it is needed for another future action, but the variable will not be created with data information from start, it is just a position to store data if needed.

Best,

Lidia
