Can't "Show" an element on top of another "Shown" element, regardless of correct stacking.

Solved Dave 8 years ago

In my prototype, I have a pop-up menu that is a sibling of a dialog panel in the outline. It is *above* the dialog panel in the outline, so that it appears in front of it.

In my simulation, I want to:

1. Pop up the dialog panel

2. Click a button on the dialog panel to make the menu appear.

This does not work, because the menu—despite being in front of the dialog in the outline and in the editing canvas—appears behind the dialog in simulation.

There is another button outside the dialog panel that can make the menu appear and disappear. In the product, they should activate the same menu, but this bug makes this impossible, so I have to come up with a workaround.

Here are the layers in question:

1 The menu

2 The "separate button" outside the dialog panel that can toggle the menu

3 The dialog panel

4 The button in the dialog that toggles the menu

In the canvas, with the menu visible (using the same callouts):

The behavior in simulation (please note the text in input above the dialog panel: it shows the "visible" state of the menu). Also, I made the background of the dialog 25% transparent to show that the menu is *behind* the dialog, instead of in front, as it should be:

I'm pretty sure that things like this have worked in the past.

Edit:

As a workaround, I am forced to have two separate copies of the menu, one inside and one outside the dialog. The one outside the dialog is so that the button in the search input can pop up the menu when the dialog is closed. The one inside the dialog is so that the menu can pop up inside the dialog.

Hi Dave,

Have you tried using the "Always on top" feature?

No, I haven't. I'll give that a try tomorrow.

This is what happens when I'm away from the tool for a couple of months.
