Add a new column from a data master to a data list

Solved Anders Björk 7 years ago

Hi!

I would like to edit a data list that I have already created and add another column from the data master to it. Any ideas how this is done?

Thanks! :-)

Hi Anders,

You should follow this instructions:

1.Right click on the DataList.

2.Create a new column.

3.Select the DataMaster tab.

4.Drag the category of the column from your DataMaster into the second row.

5.All the data included inside this category should be displayed.

Kindly let me know how it goes.

Thank you, that worked like a charm!

Another quick question. Is there a way to change the order of the columns in an existing datalist?

Hi Anders,

Yes, you can change the order by dragging the entire column. See the video capture attached.

Sorry, should have been more specific. At step 4 I am not sure what you mean by "drag the category of the column". When I click on the data masters tab I see my data master and if I drill down I see my fields. I tried dragging the newly added field into the second row of the newly created column and although it does put my data into the data list when I simulate there are a few issues:

1) It did not pull over the column heading like it did for all the other columns when I first setup the data list

2) format for this new column is totally different. it is actually putting an input box in every row. all other columns do not have an input box.

Not sure why there isn't a way to get back to the pop-up you get when adding a new data list? This pop-up lets you name the data list, select the data master and then choose which fields to be displayed. That would be such an easier interface.

I'm having the exact issue that Robert described. Could you share the solution?

Hi Ashley,

Unfortunately if you'd like the added column to look the same, you'll need to apply the same styles to it manually (i.e. removing the border, making the inputs uneditable). However, a less time-consuming way to do this would just be to delete and then replace the data list, which will now appear with the new data from the data master added.
