Creating fixed height scrollable list bound to data

I followed the steps and ended up with a lame looking screen. When I tried to adjust the "list" for iphone screen it did not work. Please take a real world screen example for iphone to demonstrate this.
Here is the the UI tree I am looking to create
- Header for iphone page (just below the usual status bar)
- Fixed height scrollable Dynamic list that is bound to data source
- Footer (mostly a tab bar).
Achieving this UX is so painful. I have been wasting my time for over an hour now.
I would imagine this to be 101.
Please guide.
