How to display Data Master records in a selection widget

In this tutorial, you will learn how to display Data Master records in a selection widget, i.e. a Select List.

This is basically done by selecting the selection widget you want to display the Data Master’s values in from the canvas, and drag and dropping it into the desired Data Master in the Data Masters tab. Alternatively, you can drag the Data Master and drop it onto the selection widget on the canvas. This process will associate the widget with the Data Master.

You can also associate a selection widget with a Data Master following the next steps:

  1. From the canvas, select the selection widget you want to associate to the Data Master (e.g. a Select List).

  2. Click on ‘edit value’ in the Value field of the Properties panel. A new dialog will open.

  3. Select the option Data Master, and the desired Data Master from the list. Click OK to apply the changes.

Once associated, the selection widget will display all the Data Master’s record instances separating each field value with a comma.Data-driven prototypes: display records in selection lists

Displaying Data Master’s category field values

You can also display the values defined for a Data Master’s category field. To make a selection widget display these values, select a single-selection widget from the canvas (e.g. a List Box), and drop it into the desired category field in the Data Masters tab. Alternatively, you can drag the category field from the Data Masters tab and drop it onto the selection widget in the canvas.

You can also associate a selection widget with a Data Master’s category field following the steps:

  1. From the canvas, select the single-selection widget you want to associate to the Data Master.

  2. Click on ‘edit value’ in the Value field of the Properties panel. A new dialog will open.

  3. Select the option Data Master Field clicking on the radio button, and the desired Data Master Field from the list. Click OK to apply the changes.

Displaying Data Master’s multicategory field values

Finally, you can display the values defined for a Data Master’s multicategory field following the same steps described above for the category field. Notice that you will need a multi-selection widget to do this (e.g. a Multi-select list).
