Why can't I center my canvas in the available space?

Solved

I'm brand new to Prototyper Pro (just downloaded trial today). Love what I see so far ... but one thing is driving me absolutely crazy. I can't figure out how to center my canvas in the available space. Having it top-left-aligned is really frustrating. Seems like it would be an easy option to allow users like myself to center the canvas. Or maybe that option is there and I'm just a bonehead. ???

Thanks!

Hi Eric,

I too think that this is a silly design flaw. But there is no option to center you canvas it will always be top-left aligned. =/

Maybe someone from Justinmind can respond with a workaround. Or even better, an ETA of when that feature will be implemented. And if so, hopefully it's really soon since I'm still trying to decide if I want to buy a license. ???

You can 'undock' the canvas and center it pressing the button at the top left of it, next to the zoom selector.

By the way, we've already fix that for the next update and we hope to launch it in a couple of months.

Hey Victor,

not to complain (but already doing it), why are your release cycles so long? Why not get a couple of features/bug fixes done and release?

It is like this where I work, and some times we release features that are not in tune with what the customers want (even though we are careful to make sure we are delivering what they want). Getting their feedback and releasing fast allow us to get back quick to the customers and then deliver what they DO want. ;-)

Take a look at Evernote for example, they release almost for each feature they make. Your software is small enough to be downloaded in 30 seconds, and it takes 1 minute to update it. It's not like you would be putting a lot of strain on the user (me).

Hope you don't mind me saying it. =)

Cheers

Thanks, Victor. But it's not working for me. Unless I'm totally missing something. I undock the canvas with the button in the bottom left corner, right? And then I don't see an option to center the canvas. ???

It's a really good question. The main reason is we are still developing big core features of the product that take several months to do. I can't tell you which ones here (I can in private if you like) but we are putting all our efforts in them. I'm feeling after the next update (a huge one, you'll see) the release cycles will be shorter.

there is no option to center the canvas -_-; you just move it to the center and resize it.

Oh no. So I misunderstood your earlier post about being able to do it by undocking. Here's a screenshot of it undocked. Maybe what I think of as the "canvas" is different than what you think. To me, the canvas is the working space for my design. In this case, it's the iPad. What I want is to center the 768x1024 "canvas" in the middle of the window ... instead of it being top-left-aligned. That's just how I'm used to having my canvas in Illustrator, Photoshop, Pixelmator, Sketch, etc. Having dead space on all 4 sides makes it so much easier to get a feel for the actual design without the ruler touching it. Hmm.

Sure, that's how it should work and what is fixed for the next version. The thing about 'undocking' is something like a workaround for that.

Good. Glad to hear it's coming. Just wish it wasn't 2 months out. Like Andre said, little fixes in between big releases is a huge win for customers. Especially with someone like me who is looking for the right tool to buy for the company I just started working for this week. I have about 412 mockups and wireframes (low-fidelity and high-fidelity) that I need to crank out really quick. This issue isn't a deal-breaker, but it honestly will be a pain in the tail from a designer's perspective.

I totally understand, I wish we could have it faster.
