Please see if you can make it usable on Ubuntu Linux using Wine

Solved

Ive installed Justinmind Prototyper 7.4.0 to review my students prototyping work in one of my courses (http://kurser.dtu.dk/course/62522), but I have to say that it is not usable.

Here is a selection of the problems Ive encountered:

1) Making a new prototype: Text fields shows something like "Sxod r nl dsglmi gdqd - " instead of the default "Type something here..." text when not selected. When hovered by the mouse the text disappears (but double clicking allows me to edit the "Type something here..." text)

Sames goes with paragraphs. Buttons and tables are OK.

2) Opening an existing .vp prototype file gives

"An error has occurred. See error log for more details.

java.lang.NullPointerException"

I'd like to add the log, but its not stated where the log file is and there is no menu item that allows me to see the log.

3) Help | About | Licence Text and clicking OK shows

"Error. An unexpected error has occured". Clicking OK and OK crashes the program.

I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 and the default version of Wine (wine-1.6.2).

I can of course ask them to make HTML exports - but it is stated in the prerequisites of my course that Mac/Linux/Windows can be used, and I'd really like to be able to edit my students work.

So I'd be really happy if you could give it a try on Linux and examine the problems that currently exist on Ubuntu.

Hi Jacob,

The configuration you are using is not supported by Justinmind, thats why you are having all these issues.

Unfortunately, we don't plan to launch a version for Linux in the near future. There is currently not enough market interest to justify the overhead of development, tests, and documentation.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Hello Sonia,

even if not releasing a Linux Version what about a cooperation with Crossover or other softwares to run Mac/Win apps on Linux?

Just asking because as many others I'll die on a Linux machine but your product is amazing... I'm seriously thinking of buying a second machine just for Justinmind :)

Hi Marco,

I'm happy to hear that you've been enjoying Justinmind. Unfortunately I cannot assure you that in a short future we will be launching something for Linux users because as I mentioned there is not enough market. Hope you can find a computer soon so you can start prototyping with Justinmind.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Best,

Any update on this?

As of the newest version 8.1 the screen font is stil garbled using Wine.

Changing operating system is not an option to me.
