Linking multiple drop-down picklists to corresponding multiple data master fields

I have a data master comprised of geography attributes--theatre, region, country, state and so on. These are actually attributes of a flat address file.

I have dropdowns on the screen I want to be used as filters--ultimately for the data in a datasheet display. In other words, the user selects Country from the dropdown, and the datasheet refreshes with records pertaining only to that country, and so on.

I'm able to link single-column data masters to these drop downs, but I'm unable to choose a single field from a multi-field DM and link it. I've made my way to expression builder, and have done "on page load" SELECT->[data_master.attribute] and this seems to complete without error (many times), but nothing is ever displayed in the drop down.

Naturally, I'd really like the content of each dropdown to update and be restricted to values that correspond to one another--in other words, I'd like 5 separate drops downs that, together, reflect legitimate values of one row of the data master. But, I'd settle for completely uncoupled dropdowns that displayed anything at all from the multi-field data master I'm using.

Hi Kirk,

please take a look to this tutorial. http://www.justinmind.com/usernote/te...

If you need more help, please write us back. If you can include some images of your project, it will help to identify where the problem is.

Thanks!

Thank you for getting back. The situation in the tutorial is a little bit different, in that my data grid doesn't actually include any of the fields that the dropdowns do. Imagine you have a data grid displaying orders placed by a customer for delivery to a number of their operating locations. The data grid displays one row for each order, but it displays only a summary of what was ordered, when and by whom. Much of the order 'header' information (such as ship to/bill to address, etc) is not in the datagrid at all.

The data master that's behind the drop downs is entirely different than the one behind the data grid--and includes one row for each ship to address. I don't expect drop down selection to have any actual impact on the orders datagrid--it will in the application of course, but I wasn't expecting it to for this prototype. I have seen another question here about how to do that through a key, but I'm not there yet.

So, I simply want 4 dropdowns to display the values from 4 fields of a 4-column data master--one field displayed by each dropdown.
