JIM 5.0 on Mac 10.6.8 corrupts files with no possibility of recovery.

Solved

I'm getting a "File error" when trying to open a prototype I closed just an hour ago. Using the latest Justinmind Prototyper Pro Edition Version (Ver. 5.0.0) on my Mac OS 10.6.8. The last 3 backup files all fail with the same error. Is there a known bug I'm running into, here? I have dozens of hours in this. I save early and often. It's frustrating to say the least.

Sam,

So sorry to hear about your problem. I'm evaluating JIM for purchase and looking at comments to get a sense of the support team responsiveness. This doesn't look good! I hope they get back to you with a fix!

Paul,

Truth is, they have been extremely helpful. I should have posted it here earlier. They acknowledged there was a bug in the way I was using one of the features. The corrected my file and I've been using a work-around until they get the fix in the next update.

Resolution:

There is a problem in JIM 5.0.0, when you create a Data Master record with a Category or Multi-Category field that has no data populated. This is what corrupts the working prototype file.

There are several work-arounds. One that has worked for me is to create the field in the Data Master with type "text", then represent the field as a "select box" (category) or "multi-select box" (multi-category) widget in your prototype.

Another option is always to populate your category field with data immediately when you create the field.

I was told the fix will be in the next maintenance release of JIM, which should be available in a couple of weeks.

Sam,

Thank you for the update. That's great news! I like the tool so far, but haven't been able to do everything I've wanted to do with it, but so far there is a lot to like.

fond regards,

Paul

This is bad news and may be related to the fix I'm in.
