data master missing its variable

I created a data master and the associated variable was not created. is this a bug? previously a variable was created. Also, I can't seem to be able to link a button to a screen, whether I drag the button onto the screen or link it directly... is my mockup corrupted?

It's a change we made cause many users thought those variables were 'special' for data masters. Now you just need to create a variable if you want it.
