Crazyegg analytics integration gives only part of the visible screen

Solved

Hi there!

I installed the crazyegg analytics into the prototype I'm building for work; however, the screenshot in the crazyegg report only shows part of the iPhone screen - several actions where I'm expecting clicks as a result don't render in their heatmap...I'm not sure if this is a crazyegg problem or if it's a problem with the usernote / justinmind service.

Any help would be appreciated - thanks.

I will need to do some research on Crazyegg analytics, then I will get back to you.

Crazy Egg seems like a good tool to use. I am using it to test this. It is still collecting data though.

Did you also ask Crazy Egg why your report only shows part of the iPhone screen?

Hi there-

I contacted them just now to see what they say; from reviewing the source code of the justinmind online tool, the crazyegg code ends up in the bottom of the HTML where their site recommends putting it in the head section.

Could that be why I'm only getting the top 2/3 of the heatmap?

Thanks.

There might be an issue with my snapshots, so I contacted them yesterday. I'm still waiting for their reply.

Reading how to place the code in your page, it says,

"Place this tag in your page right before the closing tag or into the footer of your site. If you place the code into the footer you will only need to add the code once"

Therefore, code could be on the bottom of the HTML.

Yes, from what I saw when I viewed the source of the code, it was in the bottom of the HTML.

However, when using the Justinmind tool and selecting which analytics provider to integrate with, there aren't any options I saw with regards to where to insert the analytics code (eg, I'd need to export the raw HTML and then modify it myself, rather than using your online integration).

Is this then a bug in the way that Justinmind / Usernote inserts the tracking code? If so, do you know how I could work around this myself?

I like the tool a lot, but, my team needs the ability to do quantitative analytics as well as qualitative when we do our usability research.

Thanks.

On your question from this thread: https://www.justinmind.com/community...

Did it work when you use the HTML widget? Did you also try it with Google Analytics?

Mixpanel did not work - to use their code, you need to instrument both the javascript and attach an event listener for the actions you want to record (clicks, pageviews, etc). I did also try editing the HTML output of justinmind to see if I could instrument the click tracking myself, however, it still didn't record any events.

( I have instumented Mixpanel into drupal, the open source CMS, previously so I know the basics of how to accomplish this).

My company is not using Google Analytics for a variety of reasons, thus my attempt at getting first Mixpanel, then CrazyEgg, to work within the prototyping tool.

I've also reached out to the front end engineer on my team to see if he can help troubleshoot...but, this seems to be a bug in the app - eg, if somebody wants to do the crazyegg implementation, it should work "out of the box" or you should have a tutorial or similar.

And yes, I know Google Analytics is far more common - if that was an option, I would attempt it.

By the way, we also had a customer tried to integrate Crazy Egg analytics. He also had the same issue of getting the content of the bottom of the pages where he included the tracking code.

Here's what my coworker said, "Not sure why the content on the bottom of the screen is not being caught. I don't think it can be solved from Prototyper though since it just outputs standard html. You can try asking it to Crazy Egg and they may help you with this problem. If we can help you in any other issue please let us know."
