Can I add an item directly into a group?

The only way I've been able to find to add a new component into an existing group is to ungroup, then re-group with the new item included.

I have several nested groups, with events that reference those groups. Having to ungroup a "bottom-level" group to add a component means have to ungroup that group, the parent group, the grandparent group, etc, then regroup them all, then re-create all the events that disappeared when the groups were ungrouped. I hope there's an easier way.

I know what you mean. There is a trick but I don't know if it will do for you. If you copy the element, select the group and press ctrl-v (paste) the element will be copied inside the group. Then you will need to move it inside the group using the properties panel.

I'll try that. Any similar trick for removing a single component from a group without ungrouping?

Also, anything for copying elements from one dynamic panel to another?

Have you tried to remove them using the Outline view?

Well, that's an easy one. Just select the elements, then select the destination panel and paste.

Yes, I've tried that. Right-click delete, cut, and ctrl-d all get rid of the group that the element resides in, not the individual element.

Okay, this works if you want to copy a stand-alone element into a group, which helps. Unfortunately, if you have an element inside on group, and want to copy it into another, this doesn't work. It seems to treat individual elements within a group as the whole group. So selecting an element within the group is no different than selecting the group itself. My expectation with groups would be that selecting the group allows me to move/delete/modify the group as a whole, but selecting an individual element allows me to manipulate that element without touching the rest of the group. I suppose other users might have different expectations.

This one works, too. I found that you have to paste directly onto the canvas, though. If you try to select the panel and then right-click and paste in the Outline, it just pastes a copy back into the source panel.

You might have selected the 'tab to select the panel' instead of the panel.

You're right, it should work that way. Thanks for the point.

Then I don't know a way to do that. But I agree it must be different to delete when you have the group or just one of the elements of the group selected.

I too would like to see improvements to how groups are handled. I spend a lot of time having to ungroup and re-group items. This also moves the items out of their original position in the screen layer order.

Master templates also revert to their original name when you page them across screens so any evens in the group that referenced a custom name get dropped.

You are totally right, we must improve how to work with groups. You can expect some improvements in about three months or so.

Fixed in version 4.6.1

I'm working with 4.6.2 and the problem remains.

Even the work-around suggested by Victor doesnt work anymore.

Hopefully in v5 it's fixed...

I just tried the copy-paste workaround to add items into an existing group with version 4.6.2 and works well for me. It works the same way in version 5.0.0.

Which kind of component are you trying to add to the group (label, image, table,..)?

Is streamlining this function on the road map?

Not yet. Votes?

Thanks, Victor, for the update. We need votes!

So after several days of working with this software and reading years of complaint threads about the dismal operation of Groups in this software I can say that they have not even remotely come close to solving this. Victor's "workarounds" are cheesy and rarely all that effective. Does grouping exist? Yes it does, sort of. Sure you can group items and after a day or two you might even be able to do it without the aid of Xanex to keep you sane, but unless I have a watershed moment in the next hour, I'm afraid that I am going to have to try a different solution.

I really don't want to look anymore, but I have too many people counting on this to pass this off as a viable solution. sad, really.
